Akwaaba! Welcome!

I am currently a second-year Master of Science (MS) candidate at Stanford University with a concentration in Mechatronics and Robotics. My interests lie in the design of mechatronic and robotic systems, assistive and wearable devices, and motion planning. I am a GEM Full Fellow, which allows me the opportunity to gain engineering work experience during the summers and funds my MS program. At Stanford, I gained great mentors in the robotics field, which led me to become a mentor myself. I am a mentor in the Women in Stem Mentoring Program through the Women’s Community Center and an advocate for increasing the representation of women of color in engineering.

I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, with a concentration in Mechatronics from the University of Washington (UW), Seattle, in 2019. At UW, I served as a calculus tutor for the Washington State Academic RedShirt Program (STARS). The STARS program is a contributing factor to where I am today. The program taught me how to problem solve as an engineer and to be a lifelong learner. The program influenced my decision to pursue research opportunities, which ultimately led me to continue on to a graduate degree.

Outside of being an engineer, I share many travels with my friends and family. I have been to London; Japan; Ghana, West Africa (born and raised in Ghana, West Africa for 8 years); Oaxaca, Mexico; Canada; and Hawaii. Within the US, I have traveled across the country to Montana, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, Texas, Maryland, DC, and Virginia. On the west coast, I have lived in Washington for 16 years, traveled to Oregon, and lived in California for a year now.  Eventually, I plan to travel to all states in the United States. I would like to travel next, to South Korea and I am prepared to converse with natives because I took a year of Korean classes and watch South Korean dramas regularly. I enjoy learning about new cultures through films, cooking, and people. I am excited and ready to jump into my next adventure!
